Join us for another live recording of Fret Knot Radio Hour, hosted by Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe at 55 Haywood Street in historic downtown Asheville. As always, the event is free to the public. The madness begins at 7 pm.
Our musical guest will be Galen Kipar. His performance outfit, The Galen Kipar Project, is known to locals as a “small-scale symphony.” He will be upfront in support of his forthcoming release, The Scenic Route. As per a recent press release:
“Galen Kipar Project’s fourth album in five years, The Scenic Route, was recorded in Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville North Carolina – others who have recorded there include Donna the Buffalo, Avett Brothers, and Band of Horses. Featuring eight songs, the album promises to satisfy the musical longings of loyal fans as well as the uninitiated. Mastered in NYC by Richard Morris Mastering – Iron and Wine, Nora Jones, Wiyos, Felise Brothers. The Scenic Route was published by Paper Sailer Publishing. The album showcases musicians and instrumentation such as, Jeremy Young – Drums, Jon Morrow – 8 string guitar-bass, Camellia Delk – viola/ violin/ vocals, Vincent Corda – Flute, Aaron Balance – lap steel guitar/ dobro, Aaron Price – piano/ B3 organ and Galen Kipar – classical and steel guitars/ harmonicas and vocals.”
On May 29th, Galen will also be performing a CD pre-release party at The Lexington Avenue Brewery in Asheville just days after his appearance on Fret Knot Radio Hour.
Kitty Love will be our representative from the local creative community. She’s a distinguished cultural creative, and her list of involvements on the Asheville arts scene reads like a phone book. She is the co-founder of LAAF and the Asheville Mural Project. She established the Pritchard Park Cultural Arts Program and produced the Freaks of Asheville calendar and pageant. She sits on the Downtown Commission and the Transformus Planning Committee, a regional Burning Man event. As a tattoo artist and illustrator, she leaves her permanent mark upon skin and a variety of other mediums. We are so very excited that she will be leaving her mark upon fret Knot Radio Hour as well.
We would also like to make welcome community advocate, Mike Sule. He’s the founder of Asheville on Bikes, a local organization that seeks to cultivate the culture of commuting and urban cycling within the city of Asheville through celebration and advocacy. Sule understands that bicycling has a direct impact on the health of our community, and we are extremely pleased that he will be sharing the Asheville on Bikes mission with our listeners. With the help of a dedicated body of local bicycle enthusiasts, Sule is reinventing the wheel on the streets of Asheville, and get this – the man doesn’t even own a car. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to hear his stories from the road.
Al this and more, on May 25th, 2010.
